Candle Care + Safety

We want Bode+Ev candles to give you love + light, filling your space with a clean unforgettable fragrance that inspires joy, creativity + relaxation.  The most effective way for us to do this is to guide you with our candle care + safety tips below.

  1. When lighting your candle for the first time burn until wax melts across entire surface to the sides of vessel this prevents tunneling and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle. This may take 3-6 hours.
  1. Always keep your wick trimmed to a ¼ of an inch before each burn to promote an even burn, steady flame and limit mushrooming of wick. This is very important to prevent the candles from smoking on the next burn or from burning the sides of the glass. We recommend trimming them to ¼ inch each time.
  1. If soot ever forms on the inside of the vessel, extinguish the candle, wait for it to cool, then wipe with a clean damp cloth. Trim wick and relight.
  1. Always keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings + debris.
  1. If the candle smokes, flickers, or the flame becomes too high. These are signs that indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn't controlled. Blow out the candle, let it cool, trim the wick, then check for drafts before re-lighting.
  1. To maximize scent throw, burn in desired space for 30 mins with the door closed. Opening windows and doors will disperse the scent.
  1. Always store your candles in a cool, dark, and dry place. Avoid placing your candles where they will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting.
  1. Always burn candles within sight. Keep away from curious toddlers and pets, drafts and things that burn. Place on a heat resistant surface + never leave unattended. Always keep burning candles away from furniture, drapes, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc…

Before Burning your candle, trim the wick at least ¼ inch. This prevents uneven burning, dripping, or flaring. Avoid drafts, vents, or air currents. This will help prevent rapid or uneven burning. This is very important to prevent the candles from smoking on the next burn or from burning the sides of the glass. We recommend trimming them to ¼ inch each time. Burn for 3-6 hours each time you light the candle. This will help the candle burn evenly and remember to trim wicks before each burn.

While Burning Never leave a burning candle unattended or lit while sleeping. If you are going to bed, be sure to extinguish all candles first. Never touch or move a burning candle. Never move a candle container when the wax is liquified. If you are burning multiple candles, place each candle at least three inches apart from one another. This is to ensure they don’t melt one another or create their own drafts. Extinguish a candle if the flame becomes too high or flickers repeatedly. Before re-lighting, let the candle cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts.
